Bombardier Transportation (ZWUS) Poland Chairman Wins the Gold Cross of Merit
  • Slawomir Nalewajka honoured for his services to the Polish economy and society
  • Warsaw, July 20, 2012 Slawomir Nalewajka, Chairman of Bombardier Transportation (ZWUS) Polska Sp. z o.o. has been awarded Poland’s one of most prestigious honour, the Gold Cross of Merit. The President of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski, presented the award to Slawomir Nalewajka for his services to the development of the Polish economy and society.

    The Cross of Merit is awarded to a select few people who have made a significant contribution to the state, its citizens or charitable causes. The award was presented in Belweder, the residence of the Polish President, in the presence of Secretary of State Olgierd Dziekoński, Stanisław Koziej, Head of the National Security Bureau, and Under-Secretary of State Jaromir Sokołowski.

    Sławomir Nalewajka studiował inżynierię oraz zarządzanie w biznesie, a następnie rozpoczął karierę w Biurze Projektów i Badań Budownictwa Kolejowego w PolsceSlawomir Nalewajka studied engineering and business management and began his career with the Design and Research Office of Railway Construction in Poland in 1984. In 1993, he moved to ABB and DaimlerChrysler as a designer, project coordinator and operations director. He joined rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation in 2001, becoming Head of the then BT ZWUS joint venture with PKP in 2003. Under his leadership, the company has brought the latest signalling technology to the Polish market including:



    BT ZWUS is one of the most dynamic companies in the Polish signalling market. In 2009 it won the prestigious Polish Academy of Science (PAN) Award for innovation and growth. In 2011, Bombardier acquired sole ownership of the company to deliver the latest signalling advancements for the Polish railways and offer Polish-manufactured products globally.

He has worked tirelessly for the business and the Polish railway. This honour recognises his great contribution to the industry and Poland's development.”

    Slawomir Nalewajka has been involved in rail and business organisations such as the Railway Business Forum, the General Board of the Business Centre Club (BCC) and the Advisory Council of Radom Technical University. His previous honours include the BCC ‘Golden Statuette of Polish Business Leaders’ (2011), the Forbes Diamond in Business award (2009), the Manager of the Year award in the ‘Friends of Railway’ competition (2009), and the Caesar Silesian Business Statue (2008).
